Patients with worrying breast cancer symptoms can now be referred directly to specialist clinics in hospital, without needing a GP appointment.
The new self-referral service is available via NHS 111 online or the NHS App and means patients do not need to wait for a GP appointment and subsequent hospital referral, offering eligible patients faster access to diagnostic care.
Patients complete an online symptom assessment via NHS 111 online. Those who meet the eligibility criteria are offered direct self-referral to the specialist breast service at Addenbrooke’s, Peterborough City or Hinchingbrooke Hospitals.
Those who do not meet the criteria are provided with advice and signposted to alternative services that can help with their symptoms.

YOUnited launches a NEW additional self-referral pathway!
Parents and carers of children age 5+ and young people aged 13-17 in Cambridgeshire & Peterborough are now able to self-refer into YOUnited for mental health support.
YOUnited offers support to children and young people aged 5 to 17 with their emotional wellbeing and mental health. Previously referrals could only be made by a health professional but now parents and young people can submit a self–referral online here.
Once the referral is received by YOUnited a team of professionals will review the information and allocate to the team best suited to the needs of the child/young person. This could be one of the partners of YOUnited (CAMHS, Centre33 or Ormiston Families) or the Mental health Support Team in the child’s school. For parents or carers making a referral for a child over the age of 13, they will need to ensure the child is aware of the referral and willing to engage in mental health support. For more information on YOUnited self-referral click here.
The self-referral form is for mental health referrals only. For information on neurodevelopmental referrals such as Autism, ADHD and Dyspraxia, please click here.
