Electronic Prescriptions Posted or Updated on 20 Feb 2024

EPS2 currently allows prescribers to send prescriptions electronically to a dispenser of the patient's choice - known as their 'nominated dispenser'.  Phase 4 from June 2020 - Patient's without an EPS nomination will be given a token to present at a community pharmacy.  The token contains a unique barcode which can be scanned at any pharmacy in England to download the prescription from the Nhs spine and retrieve the prescriptions details.  During coronavirus, patients will not need the paper token; the community pharmacy will be able to download the prescription from the patient's nhs number.

Please note there will be special circumstance where paper prescriptions will be given.
